Make the relationship between content and response explicit.
A contextual interaction system in which a comment is attached to the exact object or fragment it refers to — and every comment can itself become the object of another comment.
The project started from a simple limitation of ordinary discussion systems: messages are usually stored as a chronological stream, while the meaning of a response depends on what exactly it refers to. COMmix makes that relation visible and persistent.
Comment the fragment, not the page.
A review can point to the whole document, a paragraph, an image region, or another review.
The target is explicitly marked and remains visually connected to the response. This preserves the local context that is normally lost when discussion is separated from the material being discussed.
Comments become objects.
A response does not end the relation chain. It can be reviewed, questioned, accepted, rejected or explained again.
This naturally produces a graph of relationships rather than a flat comment feed. The original document is simply level zero; every review adds another level to the same interaction structure.
The link carries meaning.
The unit of interaction is not just a message. It is a relation: who says what, about which target, and in what role.
Question, agreement, disagreement, reminder, source, attention and other review types can be represented explicitly. The graph therefore keeps not only content, but also the structure of the discussion.
Filter your view without deleting the shared history.
Different users can choose what they want to see without requiring one global moderator to rewrite the common discussion.
A user can hide a particular review, a branch, or an author's material for their own view. The original content remains in the system; the moderation decision belongs to the reader's personal representation.
